Setup and Install Guides

Merlyn Origin for Chrome OS Installer Guide

If you're the IT administrator for your district, please follow steps 1-4 in this Installer Guide before continuing here.

To start the web-based Onboarding guide, click here.

Important note: Insert the Merlyn USB before powering on the Chromebook. The USB dongle could be ignored by ChromeOS if it is plugged in after the boot process. We are currently working on a solution for this issue.

What you will need:

Download links: Merlyn Chrome Extension and Merlyn Companion App

For the best experience, we recommend Chromebooks include the following specifications:

  • Minimum 8 GB Ram
  • Intel i series or AMD Ryzen series processor
  • Chrome OS 118+

Once the extension is downloaded and installed, our Onboarding Guide will automatically launch. You can also access the Onboarding Guide at any time here: https://portal.merlyn.org/onboarding

Installing the Chrome Extension

Step 1

Choose your region and select "Next" in the lower right-hand corner.

Step 2

Log in with your district credentials using either Google or Microsoft.

Step 3

A confirmation page will be displayed; click Next in the lower right-hand corner to continue.

Step 4

Plug in your USB connector and press "Next" in the lower right-hand corner.

Step 5

If you already have the extension installed, you will see this page.

Otherwise, you'll be taken to the Chrome Extension store to install that now. Return to the onboarding tab once that's installed.

As each permission windows pop up, click on Merlyn and then click on any sliders to allow the required permissions.

Step 9

Click Agree to continue.

Step 10

Click where it shows Merlyn Off on this Accessibility window to toggle on the "Use Merlyn" permission slider.

Step 11

Step 14

Click on Pair for all three boxes shown here to grant remote permissions.

Step 15

As each window comes up, click on Merlyn at the top of the box and click Connect in the lower right to grant the necessary permissions.

Step 16

Step 17
